I regularly find interesting postings that show "freelance only". Why is that? I worked freelance for many years and decided to create my LLC 3 years ago to protect my assets should anything happen. I am a 1 person agency, hiring fellow translators when the work flow is too intense. I thought it would be a giant step forward for my career but not at all. I am very frustrated because I provide the exact same quality of work I did when I was freelance. RRRhh! I lost great work opportunities because of that!

RE: Agency Vs Freelance

Sorry, but I cannot agree to that. I can't imagine delivering a translation of mediocre quality. I already know that freelancers get paid less than translation agencies if the latter have to pay PMs, QA checks, etc. etc. But either I like the project budget and I accept the job, or - if I don't like it - I refuse politely. I would never deliver poorer quality based on a lower rate. This would be total lack of professionalism and if you work with such translators, I suggest that you look elsewhere as soon as time allows. :)

RE: Agency Vs Freelance

1) Agreed.
2) Agreed, but all that staff/work (QA check, proofreading, etc.) consumes a lot from 1 page, so a translator gets less, thus he provides poor quality.
RE: Agency Vs Freelance

Regarding high rates, there are agencies and agencies.
1) Some of them only work as postmen: forwarding jobs from their clients to the freelancers and vice versa. BEWARE!
2) Agencies who will perform a thorough QA check (linguistic and stylistic review, use of terminology, punctuation etc.) before sending the completed job back to the client. Here the high rate is fully justified and mostly correlates with the result.

RE: Agency Vs Freelance

the reason is: agencies have bad reputation for charging high fees. My advise is to advertised as a low fee agency. Make sure you advertised as a professional group instead of agency. It has worked for me with excellent results.
CHILE-jmb

RE: Agency Vs Freelance

Hi I don't know much about agency or freelance I'm just finishing my translation studies, but I think why don't you keep promoting yourself as freelance translator?

RE: Agency Vs Freelance

Thank you for the offer but my problem is that I do not have enough work flow since I created my own company...

RE: Agency Vs Freelance

Hi,

I understand what you feel, I am running my own translation company too, before, I was working for someone.

Any chance for us to work together, Business to Business?

Do hope we can work something out.

Regards
