When I send a translation to a client, it's password protected.
I send the password when I receive the payment. I can tell you, payments come quickly.

Hallo Fgourbeyre,
I didn´t know there was a password protection for translations. Is there a software program for that?
It seems to be a very efficient way to get payments on time!
Kind regards,
Vera Joana.

all microsoft office documents and zip files can be password protected from the software itself.
You can send the file to the client attached to your mail and copy into the e-mail body the first lines of the translation so he can have an idea about your work.
If he wants all the translation, he needs the password to open the attached file. As he must send his payment to get this password, he will do it fast.

Usually, clients start the negotiation by saying that payment will be made 30 days after the invoice. By then, they have already read and delivered your translation to the final client.

I'm sorry, but this is ridiculous.
Would you buy a car with no idea of its specifications, quality, performance or colour - or anything except the PRICE? As a job poster, I wouldn't dream of accepting it; as a freelancer, I wouldn't dream of suggesting it. There are hundreds of other ways to secure payment.
In my book, hotels that use theft-proof clotheshangers get two stars deducted from their rating. They say "We firmly believe you will defraud us, if only a little way, so we have decided to impose upon you this user-hostile contraption".
International debt collection is easy if you have a valid job order and have delivered a product up to specification. Whenever you have to resort to international debt collection, the expenses mount rapidly - but not yours, if your book is clean. Just advise the non-paying client that you will wait one week over the due date, then initiate collection. If necessary, you will also suspend service on other current assignments, advise the end client (assuming you know who this is) of the non-payment issue, advise same of your intellectual rights to the material, and bash the non-payers name on Internet. It hasn't failed me in 15 years - not a dime lost to bad payers yet.
